TIPS FOR TRAVELING ALONE

There are a lot of things that go in to traveling alone for girls and for guys alike. When you are headed into a foreign place where you don't know the local safety education you have to make sure you take some precautions.

1. Know where you are going.

Plan your trip and review everything before leaving your hostile/hotel. Don't share this info, and if you can avoid checking it a lot. Don't be paranoid about it, but really try to know your route so well you barely need it.

2. Get to you destination. Airports, or bus stops are hot spots for people to treat you like a tourist and take advantage. See number one.

3. Learn the local way to say I don't want that, or I'm not giving you money so that people get that you mean it. In Shanghai you can say Bùyào ( Boo Yow) which means No want. People may even laugh and be like ok ok, you get it.

4. No need to carry everything with you that you own, BUT if you do, keep it small, light, and secure.

5. READ REVIEWS about your accommodations. People will tell you if its sketchy or good or who to talk to, as well as who you should avoid!

6. Be Smart: People are people and you need to remember the rules you learned as a child. Don't talk to strangers, and if you do use the etiquette of how to stay safe when meeting new people. When people randomly get in cars with people instead of looking for that countries local services that are legitimate --that can be a problem. A Little research on taxi's, who to accept rides from, places to stay... goes a LONG way!

AND while its all good and well to travel alone, the buddy system is a good one!
